Blog.Combatnetworks would like to welcome Colin Twaddle as our newest contributor.  Colin is a Combat Networks Senior Voice Engineer, and has recently moved from Combat’s Calgary office to the headquarters in Ottawa.  Colin has over 13 years experience in Nortel voice architecture.

My first post on the Combat Blog!  I hope to bring information on the Nortel/Avaya voice platforms as well as provide a technical overview of some industry issues and fixes that I meet from my on-site experience with our customers.

Remote/Home Office Voice With Enterprise Features

With home office workers or remote workers on the rise, the ability to have a “home office” features that simulate your actual office environment becomes a little more necessary as you time increases in your “new facility”.  To help accomplish this voice – or more importantly corporate connectivity – becomes a requirement.

To accomplish this Nortel/Avaya phones provide the ability to establish VPN connectivity to your corporate HQ.  Ensuring a secure tunnel to the PBX now provides office features within your remote/home office environment.

Accessing Voice  – for: extension, voice mail, conferencing and many other type features is only a step away.

Avaya/Nortel has introduced, a new firmware for the 1100 series phones which enables VPN into your corporate network. Nortel 1100 Series Avaya/Nortel technically only support this on releases 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0 (as anything below 4.5 is End Of Life), but if you are running release 4.5 we can help you out with getting this installed and working.

Please note that if your running Release 4.5, and if you do not have enough licenses on the PBX, you are running out of time, you have until July 2010 . So if you are waiting on the right time to upgrade, or would like some options or help understanding what your chooses are, please contact me and I will be happy to provide you and overview of your options.
